WHAT IS INCOME PROTECTION?
Income Protection is disability insurance that can be used either up to 2 years or to age 67. It is used to replace your or your spouse’s income when you are unable to work.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEALTH INSURANCE AND INCOME PROTECTION?
Health insurance is used to pay doctors and hospitals. It does not cover other bills and expenses. Income Protection pays you when you run out of sick days and before or after sick leave bank so that, if you are unable to work, you can stay on top of your bills and expenses.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DISABILITY INSURANCE?
Disability Insurance pays you in cash to cover your bills and expenses if you are unable to work. It pays on top of Health Insurance you receive from the Board of Education. Health Insurance alone will not cover any of your everyday expenses while you can’t work. In addition, The Hartford offers exceptionally low rates, including low rates for spouse coverage.

WHAT ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INCOME PROTECTION AND FMLA?
FMLA protects your job for up to 12 weeks in a 12-month period. However, unless approved to convert sick days, FMLA does not offer paid leave. Income protection Through The Hartford could fill those gaps.
